Actually some of the mentioned missing features by you are already built into the actual version of LimeSurvey. Beside that we agree that AJAX style scripting adds alot of user friendliness. That why the version 2.0 is in development which will sport a great UI with all bells and whistles to easily design surveys on the fly.

Hoping to hear from you how you like the actual version.
